THE achievements of 2013 were celebrated by Tavistock Swimming Club members, parents, friends and coaches at their annual presentation evening at the Lamerton Sports Hall.

The club welcomed John Read, a founder of the club 23 years ago. They also welcomed the deputy mayor and Mayoress of Tavistock, Councillor John Sheldon and his wife Margaret who helped with the presentations, There were thank you gifts to the coaches, head coach James Lake, Nathaniel Rookes, David Dennis and Liz Webb.

The large number of attendees saw the swimmers being presented with medals achieved at the long distance club championships and a number of club trophies, including the new Masters Shield, which had been donated by club Masters swimmer, Chris Anderson.

Long distance club championship trophy winners were: girls' 14/U: Sarah Teague, boys' 14/U: Luke Stephens, girls' 15/O: Harriet Edwards, boys' 15/O: Kieran Rookes, 400m Freestyle Cup: girls: Harriet Edwards, boys: Kieran Rookes.

Short distance club championship trophy winners were: girls' 10/U: Annaliese Wright, boys' 10/U: James Meredith, girls' 12/U: Sarah Teague, boys' 12/U: Ieuan Noakes, girls 14/U: Beth Thompson, boys' 14/U: Luke Stephens, girls' 16/U: Emily Attfield, boys' 16/U: Kieran Rookes, boys' 17/O: Josh Lake.

Trophies awarded by the coaches included: best junior club swimmer: Sam Bates, best senior club swimmer: Olivia Bates, best junior girl: Emily France: Best junior boy: Jake France, most improved junior swimmer: Thanae Garland-Tsirka, most improved senior swimmer: Alex Francis, Open water: Emily Attfield and Kieran Rookes; best in training: Harriet Edwards; best squad swimmer: Luke Stephens; best relay team: men's open – Kieran Rookes, Nathaniel Rookes, Gareth Williams and Matt Edwards. Best overall swimmer: Amber Francis; most worthy swimmer: Alex Hobbs; Masters Shield: Elise Beaumont; swimmers' own choice: (girl) Izzy Teague, (boy) Matt Edwards; coaches' choice: Matt Edwards.
