IT has been the best week in the short history of the Tavistock Wheelers/North Shore Gallery race team. On Sunday Huw Richards earned the best-ever placing for a Wheeler in a road race, with his second position at the Avon Valley road race, near Kingsbridge in South Devon. He pulled off a stunning performance in one of the best performances a Wheeler this year. The race itself saw an early break with two riders opening a significant gap from the peloton but as the race progressed Huw and two others caught and over took the front two riders and the final push for the finish saw the Wheeler just miss out on the win, but take a superb second place. On Tuesday Mark Wiffen was fourth place at the Dunkerswell Circuit Race in East Devon to become the club's first rider to qualify for second category status. It was a great race from Mark at the technical Mansells Kart Circuit, Dunkerswell. The race was fast paced right from the start with non stop twists and turns. Mark rode a skilful race to finish in a well earned fourth place. The rest of the team also played an important supporting role. In the youth section, Jordan Channon continues to impress in a competitive series of races. He achieved fifth place in the most recent circuit race at Ilton in Somerset.
