Devon A
Tavistock first XI v Cornwood
TAVISTOCK entertained top of the table Cornwood in a derby clash at the Ring on Saturday.
The home side won the toss and inserted Cornwood on a dry pitch. Jay Stevens and James McGahey bowled really well to restrict Cornwood to 37 for 4 with both returning excellent figures — Stevens 3-26 and McGahey 2-16.
Matt Skeemer and Jason Hall helped a recovery for Cornwood but Jamie Stephens with a miserly 2-9 in 10 overs and captain Shawn Daymond finished with 3-27.
Tavistock's reply stuttered as three quick wickets went down and at 26-3 they were in trouble. Ian Grey and Tim Pope had other ideas and batted confidently to overcome the crisis so well as they added a 100 run partnership before Grey was dismissed just before the end for a super 64.
Pope remained unbeaten on 37 and ensured Tavistock got across the line to win by six wickets and a vital win for the Moorland side.
