ON April 20 in glorious weather Okehampton Golf Club hosted the first of their seniors' opens.
A full field entered the ever popular three ball two to count Stableford. The overall winners with 78 points were John Haley, Robin Webb and Rod Milsom-Smith from Okehampton. Second overall also from Okehampton were Alan Jones, Rod Jones and Bob Collett with 75pts after countback.
Best visitor prize went to Danny James, Peter Howard and Tim Johnson from Launceston, closely followed after countback by Bob Barter, Ernie Dennis and John Baker who took the second visitor prize all achieving 75pts.
On Saturday a four ball better ball Stableford competition for the Barnes Cup was held. The winners of division one and the Barnes Cup with 47pts were Matt Mills and Steve Peake. They were closely followed into second by Martyn Cox and Mark Curtis with 46pts; Paul Skidmore and Alan Stokes took third place with 44pts.
Division two was won by Martyn Gannon and Roger Slack with 43pts and Mark and Peter Howell were second with 42pts; Kerry Skinner and Paul Fewings were third with 42pts.
On Sunday a mixed four ball better ball open competition was run. The overall winners with 78pts were Alan and Marcia Jones and David and Sue Stanbury (Okehampton). Second were Brian and Leslie Deuchar (Sand Martins GC) and David and Sue Williams (Okehampton) with 76 pts.
The best visitor prize went to Derek and Debbie Quinn-Hall (Clevedon GC) and John Leach and Janet Fear (Mendip Springs GC) with 71 points.
The ladies played the April Stableford competition the winner of the silver division with 39pts was Lin Atkinson and the bronze division was won by Maggie Caws with 35pts.
