YELVERTON Tennis Club held their Summer Tournament with some exciting, competitive tennis on finals day.
The finalists in the ladies' doubles were Lynne McFarlane and Jenny Kay, who beat Mary Downey and Jean Humphries.
In the men's doubles, Simon Murray and Mike Shaw beat Anthony Watt and junior Tom Chiappe.
Anthony Watt won a thrilling men's final against Phil Gasche while in the ladies' final Wendy Sharland beat Lynne McFarlane.
The mixed doubles was won by Mike Shaw and Rachel Driver who beat Tom Chiappe and Jenny Kay. In the plate competition Connor Keep won the mens singles and Ann Short and Hilary Monk won the ladies doubles.
Chairman Mary Downey thanked Lynne McFarlane and Roger Froud for all their hard work in organising such a successful and well supported tournament.
In the Plymouth and District League, the Yelverton teams have had mixed results with some injuries to key players.
The men's team played their last match of the season in division four against Ivybridge with Phil Gasche, John Marshall, Charles Hattersley and Tom Alway narrowly losing 4-5.
In the final week, the Ladies A team lost to Ivybridge B, even though Fiona Spreadbury and Jenny Kay fought hard against strong opposition.
The B team played Ivybridge C, losing 3-7 with Wendy Sharland and Angie Lynch winning all the points for Yelverton while Jean Humphries and Lynne McFarlane narrowly lost two tie breaks. The B team finished fourth in division three.
The C team in division four lost their last match 2-6 against Saltash with Mary Downey and Carol Lyons picking up the 2 points, assisted by Hilary Monk and Janet Strelling and the team finished fifth in the Division.
The club are grateful to captains Phil and Karen Gasche for all their hard work this summer.
The club have arranged a friendly match against Tavistock Cricket Club, where the cricketers play tennis on one evening, followed by the tennis players playing cricket the following evening, which is always great fun. There is also a fun Pimms tournament organised during August.
