THE sixth Tavistock College Sports Personality of the Year awards (SPOTY) evening took place in a packed main hall at the college on November 29. 

Head of PE Shaun Hulbert said: ‘This is an evening hosted by the college’s physical education faculty to celebrate the achievements of the PE students at the college. 

‘Whether this is through achievement in curriculum time; successes in examination courses; contribution to the college through sport or outstanding practical performance in the local community and beyond.

‘Thanks should also go to the vast team of people involved with this production who give up their time and energy to make this show happen each year.’

The evening also saw winners from the local primary feeder schools and the community sports centres, as well as the prestigious Hall of Fame award for contribution to PE at the college and the local community.

Special guest Barry Grey presented trophies and also gave an inspiring and motivating speech to the audience.  Barry will be working closely with the college and is also leading a solo unsupported and unassisted, coast to coast crossing of Antarctica. 

There were many awards given out during the night which concluded in the Ashley Tossell Sports Personality of the Year award winner.  

Some of the award winners included — Hall of Fame award, Dave Turner. Primary performer award, Jack Mckenzie (Whitchurch School). Outstanding practical performer – Year 7 Reuben Frise; Year 8 Ruby Stacey; Year 9 Will Russell, Charlie Elkington; Year 10 Jamie Cooper; Year 11 Luke Cressey; Year 12 Jack Hutchin; Year 13 Darcey Hepworth. Contribution to college through sport awards, Year 7 Issey Schraibman; Year 8 Claire Small, Issey Persse; Year 9 Maddie Wall; Year 10 Jenny Green; Year 11 Tom Gardner; Year 12 Abi Chamberlain; Year 13 Abi Wilkinson.

Principal’s contribution award, Year 7  boys football team. Trustees’ team of the year award, Year 8 boys rugby team. Ashley Tossell Sports Personality of the Year 2017, 1, Luke Cressey; 2, Jenny Green; 3, Gemma Arundel.
