AT the Special Olympics GB National Games, held in Bath, Avon, the South West team included three swimmers who trained regularly at Meadowlands Leisure Pool in Tavistock.

They came away with the three medals in the swimming – all for front crawl. Tina Smith achieved gold, David Atkins silver and Steven Dodd, bronze.

The team coaches were Wendy Pullyblank and Wendy Bruce, both of whom were longstanding teachers at Meadowlands.

The team had started training in January, doing every Wednesday 11am-1pm at Meadowlands and every Thursday at the Life Centre, Plymouth.

Chrisine Gallie, the Swim School principal, said: 'They have all worked very hard to achieve these results. Steven Dodd also managed to win four gold medals for kayaking and has qualified for the World Games which will be held in Los Angeles in 2015.'
