THE fourth Tavistock Snooker League season cued off with Conservative A and Tavy A setting the scene with a 4-1.

Tavy A travelled to West Devon C boasting one new summer signing in Trevor Horrell, with West Devon C also active in the transfer market acquiring the services of Jamie Montgomiere and Fred Hodge.

Tavy A set the pace taking the first three frames with Woods, Ryall and Horrell taking out Elliott, Montgomiere and Grigg, with Horrell posting a respectable 27 break on his debut.

West Devon's veteran Fred Hodge had a superb win over Tavy A's Hoar. The final frame saw Tavy A's Hicks breeze past Shrimpton with a 90 point score.

Last year's runners-up Conservative A kicked the season off with a useful 4 – 1 win over neighbours Conservative B, giving new skipper Carruthers something to smile about. Retiring skipper Folley got the Con's off to a winning start with a steady frame over Con B's Martin McKechnie.

Carruthers made it two for the A team, fighting off a 'never say die' Lillicrap who kept on coming back at him. In the frame between two new players Con A's Bell edged out a good challenge from B's Monk with both showing a good appetite for league snooker. Mark Evans pulled one back for the B team with a faultless display of 'match-play' snooker. Longden made him pull back from three snookers required, to take it to a nervous pink win for Evans. Tom Evans carried on from last year with a steady display for Con A to oust Ewings.

In the second week Conservative C's Pete Wilkinson did what all others have failed to do for three seasons as he went to West Devon A and took the prized scalp of Kevin Rich. Good value for his win he took the lead and held his nerve to finish the job off with a superb black ball win.

West Devon's Colin Heathman and Hurford and Emptage (22) put their side three up, with only Hoare from the Con C's taking his man to a black ball before falling. Conservative C's Bassett beat Taylor to make it an unexpected two frames for Con C on the night.

Conservative Z against West Devon C was a tight affair. Hodge continued his unbeaten ways taking out McKechnie to put West Devon in front. Dodd pulled the Con's level with another close one over Elliott.

The game was made safe for the Conservative A with wins for Fitzsimmons and Morton over Shrimpton and Williams respectively. In the final frame Con Z were thwarted by a fine display from Grigg who took out Symons to make it 3-2 to Conservative Z.
