OKEHAMPTON shooter Georgina Geikie is convinced she can add to her Commonwealth Games medal haul with gold in Glasgow next year – she just has to qualify first.
The 28-year-old made the step up from the Commonwealth Games to the Olympic Games last summer but did not challenge for a medal on debut at London 2012
However Geikie's success at the Commonwealth Games cannot be questioned with bronzes in the 10m air pistol pairs at Melbourne 2006 and the 25m pistol pairs at Delhi 2010.
Geikie, who trains at Okehampton Rifle Club and Budleigh Farm, would love to make it three in a row and upgrade in Glasgow next summer but knows competition to make the English team is fierce.
'If you are in it, you can win it,' said Geikie. 'I know I have got the talent, it is just about whether I can bring it out on the day when it really matters.
"After Christmas I'll see if I can get onto the team for the Commonwealth Games. There are some other international competitions in Europe – it's onwards and upwards.
"It would be really brilliant if I could get onto the team. The competition is really stiff but I will do my best. All you can do is put 100 per cent in.
"It is always too early. Until the actual day, you can never count your chickens. All you can do is try and improve your skills at the present time and keep your eyes firmly fixed on your goals.
"That's the way that I try to deal with pressure. But it would be something very special indeed."
Geikie will head across the channel after Christmas for international events in Germany and France in a bid to cement her spot at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
