Lamerton 2

St Newlyn East 4

LAMERTON slumped to their third league defeat of the season, after a disastrous display at the hands of St Newlyn East. The visitors began playing neat football but with all their possesion in the opening quarter, they failed to make their dominance count and were caught out by a counter attack from Lamerton in the 25th minute. Paul Breyley played the ball from midfield to Blair Vanstone on the right; he crossed to Alex Mayne at the far post, who headed the ball into the net from six yards out.

The visitors were soon back on level terms, when an unchallenged Ross London broke forward from midfield for St Newlyn and from 20 yards London chipped the ball over Lamerton keeper Chris Wearing.

St Newlyn pressed forward as the half progressed, with Lamerton regularly chasing shadows.  However, the visitors were again caught out from a counter attack by Lamerton. Paul Breyley broke from central midfield and played the ball to James Steer, who beat his marker inside the St Newlyn box and struck low a side footed effort past an outstretched keeper, to give Lamerton the lead at the break.

The second half started in disastrous fashion for Lamerton, as they conceded within a minute.  A cross from the left wing and Jack Thompson was on hand for St Newlyn, as he rounded keeper Chris Wearing then slotted the ball into the net to level the scores. Lamerton almost restored their advantage on the hour, when Blair Vanstone crossed from the right to Ed Bradshaw, but his headed effort sailed wide of the right hand upright. The visitors took the lead when an unmarked George Harrold scored with a looping headed effort into the far corner of net.

Lamerton were down to ten men in the 71st minute, when captain Simon Breyley was red carded for a second bookable offence.

St Newlyn put the game beyond Lamerton 15 minutes from time, with a goal by Ross London.
