THE Devon and Exmoor Sheepdog Society held its Devon Novice Champion-­ships at Middle Merripit Farm, Postbridge, on Sunday. 

The judge was Peter Symons from Cornwood.

The Dartmoor weather was not kind as there was a thick mist at the trial field which made it difficult at times for the dogs to see the sheep from the post but the sheep were on the whole well behaved but testing to dogs that tended to work too close. Everyone had an enjoyable days trailing and behold once we had finished, the mist cleared.

Results: Novice Maltese Cross: 1, Jed Watson, Postbridge, Cap 73; 2, Jed Watson, Postbridge, Jay 65; 3, Bob Watson, North Tawton, Glen 55; 4. Rabbit (J) Slattery, Tivington, Bridie 52.
