KELLY College might be better known for their swimmers than their rugby players but head of boy's games Andy Egford insists they are ready to make an impact at the Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools Sevens.

Kelly are competing in the festival event at the Rosslyn Park Sevens, the world's largest schools tournament of its kind, which takes place between March 18 and 24.

The school will be up against it with Wellington College – winners of the Festival event in the last two seasons – also in their group. But Andy Egford, has targeted a top two spot in Group A which would send Kelly College into the knockout stages.

'Things have gone well for us so far this season, we had a good record in the XVs, winning 70 per-cent of our matches,' said Andy.

'It's very exciting to be going up to Rosslyn Park, and our aim is to finish second in our group. Wellington College will be very strong, but if we get through our group we will have done well.

'We only play XVs in the first term, and then turn our attention to sevens, and there are a couple of young guys in our squad who have played at South West U16s so there is some potential.'

More than 600 teams of all levels from across the UK as well as international visiting teams play in the Rosslyn Park Sevens.

And, having fallen in the semi-finals of the Devon Sevens to Torquay Boys' Grammar School, Egford admits there is revenge of the agenda.

He added: 'We got to the semi-finals of the Devon Sevens, so we're pretty pleased with how things went there.'
