THE first of the Winter Racing Series for the international one-metre boats was held by Dartmoor Radio Sailing Club on Saturday at Shaugh Lakes.

The weather forecast was accurate, with mist on the lake, together with light rain.

Seven boats took part, sailing on the classic windward leeward course, with fluctuating wind direction and strength. Sixteen races in all were held, with races nine to 16 being run in quick time due to heavy rain.

The day’s events were won by Dave Kent, sailing his fast Britpop, with Jerry Lock (Aqua) second, Ralph Weller (Mad Max) third, John Endicott(Rubix) fourth, Dain O’Driscoll (Isis) fifth, Morley Varker (Hotmix) sixth, and James Scrimshaw (Scimitar) seventh.

Many of the DRSC skippers were away sailing in a national event at Woodspring. The next races will be held in the New Year.
