OKEHAMPTON Golf Club has enjoyed another busy week — on July 21 it held a seniors' three ball open. The overall winners were Fred Scott-Lawson, Chris Ball and Rod Milsom Smith with 75 points. Second overall were Bob Collett, Rod Jones and Alan Jones with 73pts. Best visitor prize went to G Moore, B Barter and J Hocking (Torrington) with 71pts on the back nine from, in second, D James, S Lewis and P Howard (Launceston/Crediton) also on 71pts. On Saturday a large field entered the men's four ball better ball open competition. The winners were Andrew Finley and Vic Marks with 44pts, narrowly beating Kevin Cornwall and Alan Searle on the back nine. In third place were Dennis Edwards and Ray Piper with 43pts. Best visitor prize was awarded to P Skidmore and R Reid (Dawlish) with 73pts. On Sunday the Oke members held a mixed better ball competition to raise funds for Hospiscare and in memory of Eileen Piper, a long standing member and former ladies' captain of the club. The winners were Anne Brockenbrow, Michelle Widdows and Paul Rattenbury and a donation of £400 will be made by the club to the charity.
