FIVE young athletes from Mount House School who took part in the junior trials for the West Devon U15s' athletics squad performed exceptionally well, competing against older children from 18 schools across the region.

In the field events Jessica Huntington won the high jump, and Emma Manton won the long jump. Alex D'Entrecasteaux came fourth in the discus, and did well in the shot.

On the track, Samantha Unsworth-White achieve third place in the final of the high hurdles. Ella Cunningham came second in her heat of the 200 metres, and went on to take eighth place in the final. Jessica Huntington came fourth in the 1,500 metres while Emma Manton was second in the 100 metres.

The girls' relay team: Ella Cunningham, Jess Huntington, Emma Manton and Samantha Unsworth-White beat all-comers in the sprint relay.

As a result of their performances Emma Manton has been selected for the long jump and the 100 metres, and Jessica Huntington for the high jump in the Devon trials on Saturday at the Exeter Arena.
