Tavistock Moorlanders 29

Paignton seconds 15

FOLLOWING their fine win at Totnes last week, the Moorlanders turned in another solid display against a useful Paignton side.

Both teams made positive starts and play swung from end to end. A Moorlanders attack after eight minutes ended with prop Jason Ward coming off of the back of a maul and bullocking his way over for the opening try.

Paignton then began to dominate and after several attacks had been repelled, the visitors scored from a rolling maul after 15 minutes . The try was converted. A few minutes later, the visitors added a penalty and straight from the restart, ran in a second try to extend their lead to 15- 5 midway through the half. The Moorlanders gradually went back on the offensive and following some pressure from the forwards, number eight Simon Boreham cut through the defensive cover to score a try five minutes before the interval. With the home side now firmly in control, right on half time, left wing Liam Mills swooped on a loose ball just inside the Paignton half and raced 40 metres to score a fine try in the corner, to bring the scores level at the interval.

Playing down the slope, the Moorlanders were soon threatening the Paignton line and five minutes into the half, Simon Boreham barged over for his second try after good approach work from the forwards. Tom Thursby added the conversion.

The Moorlanders then enjoyed the majority of the possession for the rest of the game but with Paignton defending stoutly, could only add one more score, when centre  Chad Brading crowned a fine game with a try under the posts. Thursby again added the conversion, to give the final score of 29-15 to the Moorlanders.

Another good team performance from the Moorlanders, with the front row of Jason Ward; Nathan Peck and Dave Welsh all giving their opposite numbers a hard time. Lock Steve Long was prominent and replacement flanker Tom Friend also showed up well.
