THE dinghy section of Weir Quay Sailing Club has enjoyed a varied and entertaining racing season throughout 2017.
The helm and crew on their dinghies have coped with conditons from flat-calm to near gale-force conditions; capsizes and a broken mast featured in the last, very challenging race of the season.
The racers rely upon the support of the officer-of-the-day and the rescue launch to ensure that each race is both safe and successful for the fastest boat.
The club has cadets ten years-old competing successfully, so it is most grateful for that support.
It splits the fleet of club dinghies into fast and slow handicap categories; this encourages greater competition within each group and better matches the age groups. The youngest helm is aged seven and the oldest is 70 plus.
This year, the overall results are listed according to the helm, to recognise the person rather than the best boat.
In the ‘fast-class: 1, Steve Kirby; 2, Graham Reed; 3, Sophie Dandy; 4, Chris Coomber. Slow class: Joint 1, Jake Hambley and Richard Platts; 3, Aaron Kirby; 4, Lottie McCleod.
