Pirates Amateurs 14
Tavistock RFC 9
TAVISTOCK were unlucky not to salvage more than a losing bonus point on what was their longest away trip of the season to Penzance.
Unfortunately for the Moorlanders they conceded two early tries inside the first 20 minutes – the second a contentious penalty try.
This decision seemed to fire Tavistock into life and as the half wore on they began to put some pressure on the home side. Tom Charlesworth made an interception on the half way line but was stopped short on the five metre line.
The visitors were unlucky not to recycle the ball to finish off the score. Tavistock’s lineout functioned well with some accurate throwing from young hooker Jasper Cameron and some strong work at the break down saw Charlie Charlton and a number of the other forwards make turnovers.
In the second half Tavistock’s back rowers Josh Langton and Sam Northmore came to the fore and their phenomenal tackle rate started to cause the Pirates to tire. This resulted in them becoming loose and conceding a number of penalties, three of which Ed Nettleship kicked with composure despite the blustery conditions.
Later in the game Tavistock’s Sam Eaton came off the bench and made a bullocking run but again the visitors were stopped short and could not quite get the decisive score.
Jack Easton at full back fielded a number of kicks and looked to run from deep but it was not enough to make the break through.
Tavistock were unfortunate to lose a close game which ended following a head injury to front rower Charlton that required him to be taken to hospital for treatment.
