Devon one
North Tawton 21
South Molton 17
THIS game saw the hosts record a two year undefeated home record in the league — not losing since the 2013-14 season.
South Molton started much the better team, as a turnover from kick off saw their hefty pack dominate phases resulting in an early penalty, duly converted by their fly half, 3-0.
Possession remained with Molton for the majority of the half, although their strong carries resulted in isolation and turnover ball releasing the North Tawton backs; this led to Craig Dennis opening an opportunity for Jake Ayris to go under the posts. Alex Dennis converted the extras.
South Molton hit back with a forward’s try before a further individual effort from Ben Sharp as he danced around a number of would be tacklers, seeing the the home side take a 14-10 lead at half time.
The second half saw North Tawton gain advantage of the elements despite their hit and miss scrum coming under pressure from the Molton pack.
Tawton adjusted well and took the game into their hands with a number of forward carries of their own, and seeing substitute Cockerham slip a tackle to release engine room partner Inglis in for a score. Alex Dennis again converted.
Molton did not admit defeat as they got to within a score again through their pack; it was a close finish but sturdy defence from Carey, Kerswill and dan Dennis brought enough turnover ball to see the game out.
