Tavistock 8

Honiton 26

ON another damp Saturday, Tavistock hosted high flyers Honiton at Sandy Park in the league.

Having previously met twice this season in two hard fought games, Tavistock knew to expect some hard and direct running from their guests.

The game started well for the Moorlanders when an early infringement saw Jack Easton carry on his good kicking with a try in front of the sticks. Honiton hit back 10 minutes later when they entered the Tavistock red zone and scored through a big carry from Hannay.

This was to be cancelled out moments later when Ben Milligan scored arguably the try of the season. Collecting the ball inside his half and rounding a couple defenders he was to sit his opposite man down with excellent footwork alone and then outpace the full back to score in the corner.

With the slope Tavistock continued to press but Honiton had the last word of the half with a soft try after a break through the centre of a breakdown – giving a half-time score of 14-8 in favour of the visitors.

The second half saw the West Devon outfit against a notable slope with a big ask in front of them.

They did look dominant at the scrum and certainly had the pace advantage of the guest side but were struggling at the lineout.

Early in the half Honiton scored a well work try after keeping the ball alive in an otherwise tight half.

Tavistock did enter the opposition 22 on occasion but could not quite get the ball over the line.

Honiton sealed the bonus point win with three minutes to go when another close range effort was finished off by Hannay.
