NORTH TAWTON 52
DARTMOUTH 12
THIS was an entertaining match between table toppers North Tawton and Dartmouth with the visitors belying their lowly table position with a ‘never give up’ attitude even though they went three tries down in the first 30 minutes.
It took the home team only six minutes to score the first points with a try from Luke Dennis and a conversion from Gary Sizmur who took all the kicks for North Tawton. This was followed by the best try of the match – a run by Jordan Cornthwaite from deep in his own half, bouncing of tackles on the way to the Dartmouth try line in a brilliant effort. The conversion was added for 14-0.
Up stepped Gary Sizmur for his try and conversion to make it 21-0. It then looked as if the home team was going to run away with the game. Dartmouth soon answered that with a well worked try, taking advantage of maybe North Tawton dozing off a bit as the teams went into half time with a score of 21-5. With their heads back up the team from South Devon were not done yet.
The second half got underway with the home side intent to snuff out any comeback thoughts Dartmouth might be harbouring and a brace from the inform Alex Dennis with one kick added took the score to 33- 5. North Tawton had secured the bonus point and surely won the game but Dartmouth showed great pride and did not show any signs of throwing in the towel, playing for every ball and keeping the pressure on the home team.
Further tries from Nathan Abrams for North Tawton, a first since his signing for Kev Dennis and a trip over the the whitewash for scrum half Jack Phare, added to the tally. A late try conversion for Dartmouth gave a final score of 52-12 to North Tawton.
The man of the match was Ryan Gross.
