THE Boxing Day game between Tavistock Rugby Club and former players home for the festivities was played in its usual spirit.
Tavistock hosted its annual ‘Locals’ versus ‘Legends’ game with much success.
With the weather kind to say the least almost 50 players and close to 150 spectators passed throughout the day — one of the biggest turnouts in years.
It was the Locals team who came out victorious in a highly contested game, 17-14. A brace of tries from Doug Lloyd saw the regulars gain a lead only for the legends to return with a couple of tries themselves on the counter from Alex Moy and Wilcox.
After a tense final 10 minutes it was the larger pack of the local side that proved the difference as a five-metre scrum was driven over the line for Mark Friend to score the deciding try.
The club thank all those involved in the success of the day!
The annual match is always a great way for the players to get rid of the excesses of the previous day but that did not stop them playing a fine game. Then, of course, it was back to the clubhouse for a top-up of festive food and drink.
