OKEHAMPTON Rugby Football Club held its annual Vice Presidents’ and Volunteers’ lunch on Saturday before the home game against South West one league rivals Bridgwater and Albion RFC.

Guests of honour were Ted Cann, age 87, and his wife Pat. Club president Andy Ewen welcomed everyone to the event and especially Pat and Ted. He said that the occasion also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the first game of rugby in Okehampton following the Second World War, a game in which Ted played at the age of 17.

Ted has been a stalwart of the club over the intervening years both as a player, committee member and also as honorary secretary for many years.

Ted was presented with a match ball signed by the first XV on the day as a momento of the occasion while Pat was presented with flowers.
