Elburton Villa 2

Bere Alston United 3

IN an evenly contested first half, Bere Alston scored first when Darren Philips intercepted a pass and sent Aaron Rocky away round the keeper and slot home from a narrow angle.

The second half saw both teams go for broke on a difficult pitch. Dale Simpson latched onto a through ball but slipped when the keeper came to smoother the ball to slot home. Back came Elburton to reduce the score with a stunning 20 yard screamer. Bere went 3-1 up when a back pass left Elburton keeper stranded; Euan McCall reacted first and helped the ball over the line with a desperate keeper diving to try to retrieve the situation.

Bere made and missed a host of chances and, with no apparent danger, a free-kick taken by United's Rob Jinman led to a Villa goal; he 'passed' it to an Elburton player, who played it first time for Landricombe to run through and score. However, this did not distract from a good all round team effort by the visitors.
