THE high technical standards of Dragons' students from Halwill proved to be a great asset at the seventh Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo championships in Bristol two weeks ago.

Four returned to Halwill as national champions, while two scooped silver medals, one was a bronze medallist while another had an award for bravery. The competition was fierce and attracted more than 280 competitors from around Britain, with teams from South Africa and two teams from Ireland.

Results by Dragons: Junior coloured belt divisions, Leo Wetheral, aged 9, bronze medal for patterns; Josh Power 9, silver for patterns; Ella Rose Petersen 10, silver medal and a bravery award after sustaining an injury in her fight. Jessica Lovejoy 9, gold and junior girls' champion patterns. All the youngsters attend Halwill School.

Seniors black belt, Alan Andrews (over 35s) gold and ITF champion and gold in ITF sparring champion; Alice Morey, 16, gold, GB U18s ladies' sparring champion; Ellis Wiffen, 15, U18s male patterns champion. The competitors' coach for the day was Alex Grange, fifth dan, who is the assistant club instructor.

Dragon Taekwondo Academy Halwill has been awarded centre of excellence status for the second year running.
