On September 14, the annual Peter Bartlett Youth Regatta will be taking place at Roadford Lake. The event aims to introduce new sailors to racing and support and encourage those looking to improve their racing. This fun day of sailing, for novice to advanced sailors aged eight to 18, will run from 10am to 4pm. Entry is £15 per person which includes a barbecue lunch. Phil Timings, Roadford Lake outdoor and active manager, said, 'The annual Peter Bartlett Cup encourages and develops young sailors into racing and is always a great day on the water. This year entrants will be split into two fleets, by experience, and there is a range of prizes available including cash prizes and those donated by the event sponsors.' In the afternoon Peter Bartlett will present the prizes. Mr Bartlett, the first patron of South West Lakes Trust, held the position of chairman of the Royal Yachting Association for the South West region for 15 years. As past commodore of Brixham Yacht Club he promoted water sports for disabled people and emphasises that age should not be a barrier in taking up sailing. There will be a limited number of boats available for hire so booking in advance is recommended. There are plenty of opportunities to take part in activities at the lake, including tuition, hire and a number of events — contact the centre or visit the South West Lakes Trust website on http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk">www.swlakestrust.org.uk
