CLAY pigeon shooter Reg Toms from Bratton Clovelly was bang on target when representing England last week in a Home Counties international tournament. Teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and Ireland competed at the two-day event, which held at Beverley in East Yorkshire. The 67 year-old made his England debut in the veteran class of the Olympic Trap team and his skilful shooting earned him runners-up spot in the veteran class, defeating a top Irish marksman on the way by just one target. Reg loaded his rifle again following that success to play his part in England's victory in the team event for ladies, juniors and veterans. 'It was terrific,' he said, 'truly wonderful. I had butterflies to start with but once I was on the line with the gun on the mark I just concentrated on my shooting. The more targets I hit the more my confidence rose. 'I have had lots of congratulations and well dones, it was lovely. I also enjoyed getting to know my England team mates and competitors - we talk a universal language when it comes to our sport.' Having earned international recognition as a pensioner Reg is hoping that he will attract the selectors' eye again and be picked for his country in the future. 'Hopefully, it is just the beginning of my international career,' joked Reg.
