Devon D Yelverton v Whitchurch REPEATED breaks for rain spoilt what could have been an interesting encounter between local rivals Yelverton and Whitchurch. Their first half fixture did not even start but this one did at least see some action. Whitchurch won the toss and opted to bat. With Credicott (0) and Bone (4) back in the pavilion with only 21 on the board the visitors must have been concerned. The first break for rain gave them time to collect their thoughts. Returning onto the field Billy Barriball (14) and remaining opener Towl (33) played carefully against some accurate bowling. Harrison (2 for 19) and Cunningham (1-26) gave very little away. First change bowler Tamsett (3-11) got among the wickets and swung the advantage towards Yelverton in between another break for rain. With conditions deteriorating both teams agreed to abandon the game. Yelverton are pleased to keep in touch with league leaders Babbacombe who lost to Uplyme while Whitchurch slipped closer towards the relegation zone and are in need of points. n Whitchurch fixtures:- the firsts away to Uplyme and Lyme Regis, the seconds are home to Yelverton thirds; Sunday Ladies' League away to Sandford; Tuesday TEL home to Lifton.
