LAST weekend saw Bere Alston Trekkers taking part in two events, one at home and one in Barcelona.

The home event was the Rock Solid which is a 12k obstacle course through the beautiful estate at Escot Park near Honiton.

Although the course has natural obstacles it is made up of 27 obstacles overall including mega man-made structures, swamps and a huge hydro-slide, and organisers warn that the challenge is not for the faint hearted.

Against the clock, competitors run, jump, crawl, pull and climb their way from start to finish and can opt to run as individuals or as teams, or challenge other teams to spice it up even more.

Taking part were Bats - four were running their own event but six remained together to form a team and helped each other around the route which involved standing on top of each other's heads.

Nathan Newton was the first Bat home and finished overall in eighth position out of 4,453 in a superb time of 01hr 06mins 14secs with the team finishing in 02.33.00.

The second event was the Barcelona Marathon which saw lone Bat Alen Guy running a great time.

The Barcelona Marathon race is flat, with few hills.  Runners start and finish below the green hills of Montjuic Park and race thorough the city enjoying many of the sites of the Catalan capital. Along the way they will see Camp Nou (home to FC Barcelona), Gaudi's magnificent La Pedrera and his cathedral masterpiece Sagrada Familia as well as the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bat Alen romped home to run an excellent distance personal best of 3hrs 57mins 26secs.
