COTEHELE Quay Gig Club finished the season by supporting the regatta of their neighbouring club Tamar and Tavy GC.
Three crews entered the handicapped race — a tough six mile course from Weir Quay down to the Brunel Bridge and back again. The conditions were more like sea rowing than the calm river waters of the Tamar!
The row down to the bridge was against the tide and the strong wind made for choppy water. On turning at the bridge the row back was with the tide but against the wind and in more chop. The coxes had to watch the depth of the water on the way down to avoid being run aground. Cotehele's crews were men's A (with one female rower who stepped in as there was a last minute illness) with the third fastest time; men's B with the sixth fastest time and men's C with the 12th fastest time.
The club's juniors were up next and had a convincing win. Cotehele Quay GC praised Fergus Gallacher, Evie Rogers, Rowan Newbitt, Erin Holman, Marquita Gargan and Jack French, coxed by Kelly Elvidge.
It entered crews in all the remaining categories with respectable placings in all. The club praised Tamar and Tavy GC for a great regatta.
