AS the festive period drew to a close, Tavistock Run Project reflected on some seasonal runs.
The Christmas period saw a number of fine performances from TRP athletes with park run success for Hannah Paul and Marc Smerdon who both recorded wins at Cranleigh and Tamar Trails respectively. Chris Rimmer totally dominated the field for a comfortable victory at the Tavy 5 and Hannah Walters ran to a superb second place at the Final Countdown trail 10k at Totnes.
Club organiser Dave Chanter said this all pointed towards another exciting year for the club.
Last weekend saw the first cross country of the new decade with several members of the club taking part in the South West Championships at Yeovil, five of whom were selected for their county team.
The first race of the day was the senior men. In a competitive field Ben Neale came home in 14th place, closely followed by TRP and Devon team-mate Jordan Andrews. Running strongly in support were Chris Rimmer, Ed Smith, Charlie Gibbard representing Cornwall and Corine Russell.
The U17 men’s race was once more a battle between Ollie Smart and Bideford’s Flyn Jennings. Ollie had a rare off day and had to accept second best on the day.
The TRP ladies were in form and Rachael Malthouse took first place in the female 35 category and helped Devon to the silver medal in the team event. Showing the emerging strength of the TRP ladies Claire Fraser, Hannah Paul and Vicky Moore rounded out the team scoring.
