YELVERTON  Golf Club veterans held a three ball Stableford competition last week — the first of the year due to the wet weather.

The format was two best scores to count on the par four holes and all three scores to count on the par threes and fives.

Paddy Westell is this year's Yelverton veterans' captain with Alan Hoskin as vice captain.

In first place with 84 points were Bryan Blaber, Brendan McVeigh and Tony Williams; second equal were John Soutar, Les Trace and David Jeremiah along with John Pritchard, Steve West and Nick Ring. Fourth place went to Peter O'Neill, Roy Kirwin-Taylor, Ray J Bennett and David Miles.

Bryan Blaber has been elected captain of the Emerton-Court team. The Emerton-Court Trophy is administered by the Devon Mens' Veterans Golf Association and is seen by DMVGA members as the Premier Seniors competition in the County.

The trophy is named after Gordon Emerton-Court who died in 2003 aged 97 and was the founder of the DMVGA. This year 37 clubs from all over Devon have entered.
