‘FOR the first time in living memory, said Paul Batten, match secretary of the Okehampton Smallbore Rifle Club’s prone rifle team, ‘our A team is in the lead of the Devon Winter league after 11 rounds!’
This was the result of superb shooting from team members Di Johnson, Martin Elliott, Stuart Bennie, Richard Foster and Paul Batten — the team having lost only two of the 11 rounds so far. With seven rounds left to shoot, the club are hoping their success continues.
The club are also doing well in the 18 round North Devon League, with the A Team of Paul Batten, Di Johnson, Chris Foster and Lawrence Bennie in the lead at this half way stage.
Neil Abernethy, the match secretary for the Air Pistol and Air Rifle Leagues, is also happy with the results so far.
In the 10-metre Air Rifle League 2016/17, a competition of four divisions, with 23 teams competing across the country, Okehampton SRC’s team of Steve Lloyd, Sharon Bartlett and Neil Abernethy in division two have won four rounds of five shot so far. This competition consists of ten rounds of 20 shots, each at 10m, with the competitor using the air rifle in standing position.
Shooting the Devon County SRA individual 10m Airgun Winter league
competition is Sharon Bartlett using air rifle. This demanding competition is seven rounds of 60 shots standing, with clubs from Devon and other counties across southern England competing.
Sharon has won all four of her rounds and Richard Elliott, Leon Elliott and Jason Ponsford using air pistol, have all won two rounds each of four shot so far.
Club members in all disciplines and divisions are doing their best to produce good scores.
