Devon secs B West
Lewdown v Abbotskerswell
LEWDOWN made light work of Abbotskerserwell as the openers saw them home.
At the start of play only a point separated the teams and the match was keenly anticipated as an indication of who might finish in second place to Torquay in the league.
Lewdown won the toss and elected to field which seemed entirely justified as their bowlers reduced Abbotskerwell to 47-6. However, Lewdown failed to press home their advantage and the Abbots recovered to reach 150-9 in their allotted 45 overs. Sean Green and Charlie Smout-Cooper top scored with 31 and 30 respectively. Nick Smith, with 3 for 9, and Brandon Horn with 3-31 were the pick of the Lewdown bowlers, with Gliddon taking three catches behind the stumps.
Abbotskerswell started keenly but Lewdowns openers Olly Brown and Nick Hayden steadily accumulated runs to take the game away from them, only offering one difficult chance when Brown was dropped on 49.
Lewdown scored quickly at almost six per over to reach 154 in the 27th over, Brown finishing on 83 not out and Hayden 56 not out to secure a comprehensive win.
Lewdown seconds are away to Cornwood thirds this week.
