OKEHAMPTON Sports and Fitness Festival has been a huge success once again, with around 5,000 people thought to have taken part in the huge array of activities on offer throughout the event.
The event most people took part in was the Super Sunday, an event which attracted hundreds of people to Simmons Park despite Andy Murray’s Wimbledon victory, the Euro 2016 final and the British Grand Prix all taking place on the same day.
The festival was organised by Okehampton Community Recreation Association. As well as have-a-go sessions encouraging people to get back into sport or take up a new pastime, there were competitions too.
A netball competition had over 60 players mixing it up to fight it out for top honours, while in the rounders competition, Jamie Stevens’ Team Dave were too powerful for the rest and played their way to victory.
In the squash open, a fantastic night of entertainment saw Shane Vallance beat Chris Elphick in the cup and Dan Yeoman won the plate from OCRA’s own Stuart Lord.
