Last weekend saw a select group of eight swimmers from Okehampton Otters Swim Club competing at the Level 2 Lindsay Powell Memorial gala in Plymouth.
Okehampton Otters swimmers took on a large range of different events, from the fast and furious 50 metre sprints up to the technical and tiring 400 metre Individual Medley (IM).
Coached by Rikki Morris, the swimmers excelled themselves with over 50 per cent of the races resulting in PBs, to start off this season with a bang.
A number of swimmers also collected county and regional times to qualify for next year’s Devon and South West Championships.
Stand out performances of the day included medal winners Jake (gold 200m breast), Ethan (gold 200m fly, silver 100m fly and bronze 200m free), Tate (gold 200m breast and silver 400m free) and Francisco (silver 200m breast and bronze 100m breast).
There were also top ten finishes for Demi in the 50m and 100m fly, Arabella in the 100m, 200m, 400m free and 50m, 100m and 200m back and Ben in the 50m and 100m free, the 100m back and the 200IM along with Elsa who gained herself a new 50m free personal best.
“All swimmers showed brilliant determination and progress,” said a club spokesperson. “We are so proud of their hard work, resilience, and positive attitude. Well done swimmers, keep swimming strong and believing in yourself!”
