Okehampton Community College qualified to represent the area at the Devon Sports Hall Athletics Final at Torbay along with 15 other teams across the county — part of the School Games which will run up and beyond the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as part of the Olympic Legacy.
The girls were outstanding and picked up the silver medal against tough opposition losing out by by just one point. There were outstanding all rounder performances from Prevail Harmony who was first in the long jump, second in the four lap race, and third in the vertical jump; Sophie Williams who was second in the two-lap race, the shot and long-jump events; Mollie Rickwood, third in the six lap race and Chloe Roissetter, third in the shot put. The team won the four by two lap relay with Heather Atouguia, Sophie Williams, Prevail Harmony and Nya de Kock Jewell running their hearts out. The boys were 10th out of 16 with good performances from Reece Forster in the shot and triple jump.
Stuart Lord, school sports co-ordinator said: 'This is a great format, with all members of the team participating in track and field events. There was a great atmosphere and we would specifically like to thank Jeanette Green for her help in organising the event for are area .
OCRA start an athletics club for ages 8-11 years on Monday, April 23 from 4-5 pm for ages 8-11 years.
