Plymouth Marjons D 3

THIS hockey match was moved to Plymouth after two previous attempts to complete the fixture in Okehampton failed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Marjons began strongly and kept possession well with their short passing game. However, the Okehampton defence held firm with some timely interceptions from Mark Bingham and some comfortable saves by goalkeeper George Morgan.

Okehampton always looked dangerous on the break and took the lead when Jake Lloyd dispossessed a defender and drew the goalie, before passing to Stuart Jarvis for a tap-in goal.

The pattern continued in the second half with Marjons enjoying the majority of possession and territory.

However, Okehampton man of the match John Jarvis continued to make clean tackles and important blocks to keep them at bay.

A superb cross-field pass from Neil Rowlands found Toby Lloyd unmarked in the circle and he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to double Okehampton’s lead.

Marjons then threw everything into attack and were rewarded with a goal from a short corner. Soon afterwards Tim Morgan was unlucky to touch the ball with his foot while making a goal line save and Marjons levelled from the resultant penalty flick.

It looked as if this high quality game would result in a draw but with three minutes to go, the home side worked a good overlap on the right wing and scored a winner from the cross.
