Devon two

Dartmouth 12

North Tawton 61

THIS final league game of the season saw North Tawton travel south to Dartmouth knowing that with promotion in the bag and Tamar Saracens result irrelevant, a straight win would see Tawton go up as champions. This they achieved in quite emphatic fashion.

After only two minutes a series of offloads between forwards and backs alike saw Michael Young receive the final pass to trundle in under the sticks for the visitors. Like much of the rugby this season the game was won in the first quarter as three more tries were quickly run in by Craig Dennis (2) and Ben Sharp, all from notable distances.

North Tawton proceeded to remain ruthless bringing the half time score up to 49-0 with Dennis completing his first hat- trick since returning from injury. Will Lethbridge grabbed his first of what would be two tries and Simon Quick the recipient of a neat cross field kick accurately placed on a six pence by the ever present Tom Phillips.

The second half was a much even affair as the mid Devonians eased up and Dartmouth fought to regain some pride from the game.

Dennis completed his double brace and Lethbridge bagged his second in a scrappy second 40. Veteran stalwart David Quick did find himself making a rare cameo from the bench only to find himself sent to the bin for a not so uncommon punch spotted at the breakdown by the official.

This was a great win away from home for North Tawton against a potentially tricky Dartmouth side. Glennon Walters put in a particularly strong performance after a number of weeks out of the game and Alex Dennis pinpointed with his shots at goal converting eight of the nine scores.
