TWELVE members of Tavistock Athletic Club went on a mini club trip with a night in Beer Youth Hostel before competing in the Grizzly and Grizzly Cub at Seaton.

This year's race, which included roughly 3,500 feet of ascent, was named 'Grime and Punishment' — 20 miles of muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles.

The shorter Cub run was just over nine miles on part of the same route.

The weather was mid-March at its most miserable – bitterly cold wind and showers of sleet and rain.

Helen Alcock, Lesley Cowie, Rhian Johnson, Jackie Ralph, and Kate Rogers all competed in the Cub, with Kate running strongly to be first TAC home in 1 hour, 48 minutes, 3 seconds. Jason Shipton was first club member to finish the main race in 3.37.02, followed by Andy Houghton, Andrew Alcock, Graham De Val, Paul Waldron, Gary Chater and Caron De Val.

Andrew Alcock knocked over 30 minutes off his 2012 time for the race and Caron De Val did particularly well to complete the tough course in miserable conditions.
