Tavyside Badminton entertained Victoria, the top team in the Plymouth Badminton League, in the Beckley Cup competition. The cup is a handicapped tournament based around points scored — with one team being given, at the end of the match, points to balance the sides out.

The first round of six games saw Alan Berry and Jemma McKenzie do well to take 17 points off their opposite pair with both the other Tavyside pairings earning five and eight points off their opposite pairings.

The second round saw Jonathan Steocker and Ellie Drage gain 16 points; the other two Tavyside pairings all earned points in their games.

The third round saw Steve Norris and Charlotte Davies come into their own as a pair and take 15 points off their opposition.

At the end of the match Tavyside Badminton had scored 92 points and Victoria 378 points. With Tavyside Badminton been given a handicap of 297 points, it meant they had won the match by just 11 points.

Tavyside Badminton are now waiting on who they will be up against in the semi-final of the Beckley Cup.
