MEMBERS of the South West Kickboxing Academy and Martial Arts made the long journey up to Guildford on Friday to take part in the Martial Arts All Styles fight day.
Led by fourth dan Steve Lilley the members came away with great results. Jamie Pollard helped with the cornering, John and Peter Walters both make their first trips into the ring, with both performing very well.
John picked up a good draw, looking a natural. With a little work he could become a future title ranked fighter. Peter performed well against a more experienced fighter, narrowly losing.
Head coach Steve was pleased with both lads’ first experience of competition fighting.
There was also had the re-match of the British Kickboxing Union U16s’ title which the SWKA Nathan Pollard narrowly lost on a split decision back in March. Nathan got a rematch on November 25 at Guildford, and took his chance beating current champion Ryan Gunnall from Team Gatwick, an experienced fighter in only his fourth kickboxing bout. His father Jamie helping in the corner was proud of Nathan’s performance.
Steve Lilley said: ‘Nathan’s worked hard and been very focused on his fight, busy working with a number of local martial arts experts to improve all the little things he could which would ensure he got the right result from the judges.’
