MOUNT Kelly School swimming team produced some remarkable perform-ances at the Olympic Pool in London for the English Schools' Swimming Association Relay finals.
It was a highly charged three horse race between South West rivals Plymouth College and Millfield School.
Junior girls, Rebecca Carpenter, Georgina Dennis, Katy Miles and Kaylee Dekker, kicked off with true grit and determination to place our first podium position in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay. The same team then went on to fifth place in the 4 x 50m medley relay
Intermediate boys then followed in the relays. Taku Chazza, Oliver Taverner, Jacob Gibbons and Harry Turner narrowly missed out on gold to Plymouth College. Bringing Conor Sleeman up into the 4 x 50m freestyle meant the boys raked up a second podium, gaining bronze.
In the senior girls' age category Emily Cutler, Christy Gold, Leah Picillo and Jade Stocker took the girls through to the final, making way for Gabriella Weaver and Megan Bowen to come into the final where they took silver. Moving into the medley relay, Dani Baker, Jade Stocker, Chloe Barrow, Megan Bowen continued their form swimming to yet another silver.
The Mount Kelly highlight of the day was the boys' senior medley team consisting of Toby Stanyer, Donovan McAntagart, Nikita Ivanov and Julian Chan. Rivals Plymouth and Millfield pushed the boys to the extreme, but the Mount Kelly boys refused to give in on that gold, with Julian Chan holding the teams off in the last 5m —breaking Millfield's national record, placing the boys as the fastest senior medley team in the history of the meet. Switching Will Luckham-Down into freestyle relay meant they continued their good form to place second.
Other relay teams did a superb job, showing a great deter-mination including the intermediate category with Georgia Martin, Cara Layden, Halle Ashworth and Honor Kingsley Smith.
The girls swam into a hard fought fifth place in the freestyle relay.
