MOUNT Kelly Swimming had a great outing at the ASA South West Short Course Championships held at Millfield from November 6 to 8.

The swimmers came away with a huge total of 32 medals and four open Mount Kelly records as well as a number of short course national times.

Ollie Tavener had an excellent weekend claiming four golds, one silver and two bronze medals. Megan Bowen took victory in the 800m freestyle and won a further three bronzes, while Leah Picillo claimed one gold and two bronzes. Julian Chan Quee Lin earned three silver medals and Dani Baker took silver in the 50m backstroke. The other individual medals came from Reiss Ormonde-Cunningham, Jacob Gibbons and Kaylee Dekker, who each took a bronze medal. 

Olivia-Mae Cameron experienced a highly successful weekend claiming five para-medals with four of these being golds.

The final medals came from the relays where the Mount Kelly teams took two golds, three silvers and a bronze.

The four open Mount Kelly records were set by Julian Chan Quee Lin and Ben Staig, who claimed two a piece. Ben broke the 50m backstroke in a time of 26 minutes 59 seconds and the 200m backstroke in 2.02.90, while Julian set records in the 100m freestyle in a time of 50.50 and the 200m freestyle in a time of 1.48.88.

Sixteen Mount Kelly swimmers will now focus their attention on the ASA National Short Course Championships which will take place at Sheffield from December 17 to 20.
