YELVERTON racing driver John Simpson competed at the renown Castle Combe circuit earlier this month.
He managed a third place in his class despite losing power due to what was later discovered to be a split intercooler pipe.
More recently the intrepid pensioner competed at the Portreath sprint in Cornwall and came fifth overall and was first in the two wheel drive saloon, a result John said he was happy with.
This weekend, (September 2 and 3) will probably be John’s last event this year — the two day Wiscombe Park Hillclimb.
John told Times Sport: ’I have not run this car there before so will be interested to see how it goes. It has a very strong entry though!’
