TRISH Deykin from Milton Combe was the first on the podium at the Goodrington Sands Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.

It was the first race Trish, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, has done since she took part in the European Triathlon Championships for her age group last year.

She finished in a time of 1 hour 38 minutes 04 seconds and was both first female and overall winner.

She said: ‘I had to pull out of the British Champs this year as I’ve injured my knee but I was bored so I thought I’d partake in this race, like you do!

‘The 750m sea swim was lovely then it was a very technical and hilly 26km bike where I was the second fastest out of the whole field.  The last part was a 6k run on the coastal path which again was very hilly and included a lot of steps.

‘I was first female and first out of the whole field. To say I’m chuffed is an understatement as I did no training whatsoever for this event, I’ve not even worn my wetsuit since the Euros last August!

‘I’m not well with MS today but it’s worth it and sometimes you have to show the MS who’s boss!’
