A RECORD number of 20 runners from Tavistock Athletic Club competed in the local Six Moor Miles off-road race.

Starting and finishing in Yelverton, the route takes runners across 6.4 miles of undulating moorland of the Maristow Estate.

After a month of hot dry weather, race day was cold and blustery with torrential rain just before the start.

First TAC to the finish, in 11th place overall was U17 Harrison Baker in a superb time of 43minutes, 28seconds. Charlie Lloyd was next club member home, winning his MV50 category in 46.42.

Peter Bazley ran well to finish second in his MV55 category in 49.33, while Gary Chater put in a strong performance to finish just over a minute later, in 50.47. David Twine was close behind, in 51.07, gaining third place in the MV55 age group.

Other noteworthy race performances include Christine Le Flem who won her FV60+ category in 60.12, Andy Houghton who finished in 53.27 and Lisa Mabey who was third in her FV35 category crossing the the line in exactly 57 minutes.
