Plymouth Argaum seconds 27

Tavistock

Moorlanders 45

AFTER waiting patiently for a month the Moorlanders were at last able to play again and travelled to Stonehouse to play Plymouth Argaum in a friendly.

Inevitably, the Moorlanders were slow into their stride and Argaum had a penalty on the scoreboard after only a few minutes.

Tavistock seconds opened their account when fly half Tom Thursby set off an a 70 metre dash past the cover defence to score a fine individual try.

With their big heavy forwards proving a handful, Argaum retook the lead on 20 minutes with a try from a well controlled rolling maul following a lineout.

Although struggling to win good ball from the set scrums, the Moorlanders looked dangerous every time they ran with the ball and another fine run from Thursby and an impressive 40 metre dash from flanker Ryan Bragg, added two more tries by halftime. Centre Nick Lane converted both, to give the Moorlanders a 19-8 lead at the interval.

Argaum started the second half in positive mood and scored another try from a rolling maul. However Tavistock soon showed their superiority and ran in four more tries in the next 20 minutes. Nick Lane posted two; Thursby completed his hat trick and lock Ollie Thomas slipped through for another. Lane added three more conversions.

With the game already lost, Argaum took advantage of some slack defending from the visitors to score two converted tries at the end to bring some respectability to the final score. For the Moorlanders, centre Chad Brading gave Argaum a torrid time with his hard running; Tom Friend, Jack Jones and Jack Lewis were prominent among the forwards and there were good displays from debutants, prop Wayne Roberts and fullback Sam Nicholson.
