FOUR promising athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club travelled to Cardiff to compete in the Indoor Track and Field South West Championships.
Jenny Milburn (U13s), Jade Kinsey (U17s), Emma Ryder (U15s) and Patrick Channings (U17s) were all delighted to be bringing home a medal.
This was the first time three of them had ever run on an indoor track which is quite different to running on an outdoor track as the indoor track, which is half the distance is banked and has tight corners.
Jenny demolished the rest of the field in the U13s girls 800m to be crowned South West champion, beating all the Welsh athletes at the same time.
Jade, being one of the younger athletes in the U17s category, had a tactical 300m race with a close finish on the line to take the silver medal. Emma showed great determination and strength in the U15 girls 300m and battled well to earn silver.
In the U17s men's 400m race Patrick ran a strong race with stiff competition to collect the bronze medal.
Their coach Adam Tofield was particularly impressed with their performances.
He said: 'They continued to work hard and train throughout the Christmas period in preparation for this event, so they deserve all the success they achieved.
'I am also really impressed with their times. To be running so close to their personal bests in January really bodes well for the outdoor season.'
