Devon D Yelverton firsts v Clyst St George firsts YELVERTON's good start to the season continued with a four wicket victory over visitors Clyst St George at Langton Park on Saturday. Asked to bat first, Clyst found the going tough against the home bowling attack with Pat Hobbs (3-14 off five overs) James Harrison (2-21 off six), Matt Tamsett (2-29 off nine) and Iggi McBride (1-19) all in the wickets.  Only Clyst skipper Chris Ferro who opened the innings and was undefeated on 51 not out when the innings closed made much headway, but found support from the other batsmen lacking. Yelverton wrapped up the Clyst innings for 138 off 41.5 overs. In reply Rob Grove (38) and Matt Tamsett (8) put on a quickfire opening partnership of 47 to make a dent in the run-chase and another 39 partnership for the third wicket between Sam Parker (7) and Iggi McBride almost took the Bohemians home before a couple of quick wickets halted the sedate progress of the home side.  McBride (50 no) stuck some forceful blows to see his side safely home on 139-6 after 28 overs. With the two extra points claimed for knocking off the runs in under 40 overs, Yelverton claimed 21 points for their victory. n This week Yelverton firsts are away to Honiton, starting at 2pm.
